Prepurchase Examinations are an important step when buying a horse. Our experienced veterinarians conduct thorough evaluations of the horse’s health and soundness, considering factors such as medical history, conformation, and performance. By following established guidelines, we aim to provide you with a comprehensive assessment of the horse’s condition, helping you make an informed decision regarding your purchase.
A standard prepurchase consists of a thorough physical examination, which includes auscultation of the heart and lungs, an ophthalmologic examination, as well as an assessment of conformation, joints, and tendons. The horse is then examined at the walk, trot, and canter. Flexion tests are then performed, followed by a brief neurologic examination. Radiographs, endoscopy of the upper respiratory tract, and drug testing can be added to the standard prepurchase exam.
